Adelaide. Its the City of Churches. Its also a capital city within a country considered to be “the second most multicultural country in the world” (behind switzerland of course - they always win). So wheres the connection in 2013? Is there one?
Originally inhabited by the Kaurna people then founded by European settlement in 1836 the city flourished in westernised festivities, customs and Christianity. Since then, over the last 200 years, the city has seen the rise of immigrants. Around 1970, there was a fundamental change in immigration policy. Millions of migrants and refugees came to Australia during the 1970s rendering the country with 200 languages and about 25 percent of the population from overseas countries of birth.1
Needless to say, the rise of immigrants gave rise to the presence of multiple faiths and religious practice. So where does the City of Churches fit into all of this?
